The Office of the Florida Secretary of State (Division of Corporations) issues Hague Apostilles for Florida documents requiring certification for use abroad. Apostille stamps can be obtained for State of Florida Agency or Official Documents, birth, death divorce and marriage certificates, circuit court documents, clerk of the county documents, Florida Criminal Background Checks and Florida school transcripts. Other documents, such as powers of attorney, can also be certified by apostille in Florida where they have been notarized by a Florida notary public.

Documents needed for submission to non-apostille countries require additional authentication by the U.S. Department of State in Washington DC and then finally attestation by the embassy of the recipient country (Some embassies have waived the requirement for authentication by the U.S. Department of State).

Federal documents, including FBI Background Checks and documents signed by U.S. Consular officials, should be submitted for apostille certification or authentication directly to the U.S. Department of State. State documents issued outside of Florida require authentication in the state of issue.
