Can UAE documents be legalized by Apostille?
No - the United Arab Emirates is not a member of the Apostille Convention and does not issue Apostille stamps. Documents legalized by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs need additional authentication by the embassy of the receiving country in Abu Dhabi before they can be used abroad.

What is document legalization in the United Arab Emirates?
Document legalization (or attestation) is a procedure which authenticates a public UAE document so that it can be submitted in another country for official or legal purposes - for example, if you need to submit a UAE birth certificate to the authority or embassy of another country, it will often need to be legalized.
Legalzing a document in the United Arab Emirates certifies the authenticity of the signature appearing on the document as that of an authorized public official in the United Arab Emirates and confirms the capacity of that official.
UAE document legalization is a two-step process:
- First the document will need to be legalized by UAE authorities.
- Then the document will need to be legalized by the embassy of the recipient country (embassy in the United Arab Emirates or non-resident embassy accredited to the United Arab Emirates).
Note that the United Arab Emirates is not issue Apostille Stamps, so UAE documents cannot be legalized by Apostille.

How can I obtain a copy of a UAE birth, marriage or death certificate?
Authenticated copies of UAE birth and death certificates may be obtained from Emirates Health Services. A copy of the original certificate must be provided. Copies of birth certificates may also be obtained in person (or through an authorised representative) at the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, Dubai Health Authority or Emirates Health Services.
Copies of UAE marriage certificates can be obtained from the Marriage Archives Section of the Sharia Court.
How can I legalize a UAE birth, death or marriage certificate to use abroad?
Birth, death and marriage certificates issued in the United Arab Emirates can be legalized in the UAE by the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs and then at the embassy of the receiving country in Abu Dhabi.
How can I obtain my UAE Criminal Record Certificate to use abroad?
Police Clearance Certificates from the United Arab Emirates may be obtained by citizens, residents and visitors. Applications may be submitted online (Applicants without an Emirates ID should visit a police service centre to take fingerprints). Certificates are available in Arabic or English.

Police Clearance Certificates from the United Arab Emirates can be legalized in the UAE by the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs and then at the embassy of the receiving country in Abu Dhabi.
