### What is document legalization in Nepal?
Document legalization (or attestation) is a procedure which authenticates a public Nepal document so that it can be submitted in another country for official or legal purposes - for example, if you need to submit a Nepal birth certificate to the authority or embassy of another country, it will often need to be legalized.
Legalzing a document in Nepal certifies the authenticity of the signature appearing on the document as that of an authorized public official in Nepal and confirms the capacity of that official.
Nepal document legalization is a two-step process:
- First the document will need to be legalized by Nepal authorities.
- Then the document will need to be legalized by the embassy of the recipient country (embassy in Nepal or non-resident embassy accredited to Nepal).
- Note that Nepal is not issue Apostille Stamps, so Nepal documents cannot be legalized by Apostille.

### How can I obtain my Nepal Criminal Record Certificate to use abroad?
Norwegian Certificates of Conduct can be obtained from the Norwegian Police (Politiet) online with an [Electronic ID](https://eid.difi.no/en/id-porten/how-obtain-electronic-id) or by post. Certificates for use overseas are issued in Norwegian or English, although data on any criminal convictions will be in Norwegian only. Police Certificates of Conduct are valid for 3 months.
